The Southern Quill, first printed in 1951 and published by Dixie State University, is edited by undergraduate students and has been in circulation for more than half a century. Each year, between October and March, the journal welcomes exceptional and polished submissions of poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, and visual arts from writers and artists residing in Utah and Clark County, Nevada, as well as Dixie State University students, faculty, and staff. It includes a young adult section for submitters between the ages of 12 and 17 years.

Dixie State University’s student submitters to The Southern Quill have the opportunity to compete for scholarships for exceptional works of poetry and fiction. These scholarships range from $100 to $600 each.

The 2020 edition of The Southern Quill is available for purchase. If you would like to purchase current or past issues, t-shirts, or donate to our journal, please follow this link: https://commerce.cashnet.com/WEBQUILL. Donations to our journal go towards stipends for student editors, scholarships, and production costs.

Our Spring 2021 issue will mark the 70th anniversary of The Southern Quill. To celebrate our anniversary, we will be opening our journal up to submissions from a greater area of the westernmost United States. Your donation can help make that possible.

Southern Quill's annual publication would not be possible without our generous donors, contributors both writers and artists, and the hard work from our dedicated staff.  Thank you for making this journal a reality.
